Credit Cards-credit Card Debt-debt Management Program

“My life!!! I realized about the twist and turns of life when I landed in this country, United States of America. People say that this country is called the land of opportunities, where one can easily gain success with a blink of an eye. It might be true for some people, but that wasn’t the case for me. I realized that this country will either make you or break you, but will not leave you in the middle. My life started off on a good track. I had no tension regarding money as I was getting cash from my grandparents and like almost every US citizens; I had 5-7 credit cards. In 1999, I had $20,000 in the bank, $20,000 in credit cards, life was just great. Right? Wrong!!

My life started to go downhill from thereon. I stopped receiving money from my grandparents, didn’t have enough resources to pay for my tuition, part time job wasn’t helping me to pay my living expenses. Guess who came for my rescue? My old friends, CREDIT CARDS. Credit cards helped me pay of my tuition fees, part of my living expenses, and life was coming back on track. I never thought that my old friends would become my best of enemies. My credit card bills took an exponential growth. My payments, which used to go in full, took a downslide, and I had to start making partial payments in order to pay for other expenses. The result of that were finance charges accruing, interest rates increasing, and my life deteriorating. I started to lose control of my finances, started getting calls from my creditors, collection agencies, started collecting late fees, and over limit fees. Whatever money I was sending to my creditors was not enough. Finally in October of 2002, I made the right decision.

I went on the internet and typed “credit card debt.” The result was immense. There were many non-profit credit counseling companies that were willing to help people like us to become debt free. I contacted a debt management program and after enrolling with them, I stopped paying any late fees, over limit fees, my interest rates were reduced, and I was able to make a payment that was affordable. My life took a new path and life started to look better month after month. I learnt my lessons from credit cards and will not make the same mistake that I made in 1999.”
