Credit Counseling Companies-debt Consolidation
Credit counselors working for credit counseling companies assume a variety of roles helping clients resolve outstanding debt. They actively listen to individuals discussing personal and often painful details about their financial dilemmas. They act as liaisons between those who have lent money or wish to collect it and those who have not yet settled accounts fraught with late charges and mounting finance fees. Credit counselors are professional problem solvers who combine counseling skills with financial knowledge to overcome obstacles to financial freedom. On one hand, credit counselors help clients through budget analysis, expense reduction strategies, and tapping into resources for increased income to make it financially possible to resolve delinquent debt. On the other hand, credit counselors also need to help clients discover the motivation and empowerment to become debt free.
Credit counseling is unique from other forms of counseling in that it focuses on the client’s financial picture. Viable strategies are worked out in as little as one or two sessions. Credit counselors do not engage in lengthy explorations of a client psychology, childhood history, or current medications. In fact credit counseling is not therapy. Credit counseling does not diagnose patients.
Debt consolidation companies, credit counseling companies, like other forms of counseling, involve a special relationship between a skilled helper and a client who is actively seeking positive change. When the elements of trust, genuineness, and positive regard are in place, counselor and client form a partnership in pursuit of financial solutions.
